Jools Holland - A Blackpool Big band Boogie Woogie

Over the last month we have been lucky enough to provide all of the post production services on Jools Hollands - A Blackpool big band boogie woogie.

We have only just completed a project with Malcom Gerrie and Whizz kid Entertainment, ‘A Blackpool big band boogie – Jools Holland and his Rhythm and Blues orchestra’ which aired 26.07.15 on the BBC, directed by Newcastle’s own Geoff Wonfor.

The 1 hour show was recorded specially for the BBC on 24/06/15 at the amazing Empress Ballroom Blackpool, where Jools Holland and his band were joined by special guests Rumer, Marc Almond and Ruby Turner performing their own versions of well known big band numbers.

Approximately 14,000 people applied for tickets but only 800 were in the audience, by the end of the concert Jools and his had the whole place jumping!

The concert was all about big band music from the 1930s to 1950s and includes songs from the big band greats, the greats such as Count Basie, Louis Armstrong and Woody Herman. Jools' orchestra includes some fantastic musicians and the show combines the huge scale of big band with Jool's incredible technical ability

The highlight for us has to be Ruby Turner's vocals on 'Peace in the Valley' it's jaw dropping but there's so much great stuff it seems unfair to point out just one bit.

During the post production, all carried out at The East Wing, director Geoff Wonfor commented

“As a Newcastle-based Director and producer, it’s not often that I get the chance to direct a show and complete the post production in my home town.”

“They (The East Wing) provided us with everything we needed; video edit, colour grade and sound edit – not only are they a smashing bunch, but the facilities and location were perfect for us”

We had a great time working on the show, In house video editor Micheal Atkinson completed both the online edit and colour grade, whilst our in house sound engineer Rich McCoull was the dubbing mixer.
